Assoc Prof Mabel Yap

Director, Ministry of Health


A/Prof Mabel Yap is Director, Professional Training and Assessment Standards (PTAS) Division, MOH, overseeing training and assessment standards for healthcare professionals. She is also Adj Associate Professor with Duke-NUS and NUHS.

A/Prof Yap obtained her MBBS and MSc (Public Health) at NUS, and PhD from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Her PhD project led to revision of international BMI cut offs for obesity among Asians.

Since graduation in 1984, she has worked as a clinician before specialising in Public Health.  She was involved in the establishment of HPB and spearheaded the research, disease registry and strategic planning functions in HPB before being involved in the transformation of undergraduate and post graduate medical education in MOH, and subsequently formed PTAS to develop and implement standards for training and assessment for healthcare professionals, from undergraduate to post graduate levels. Part of her portfolio includes overseeing the performance and wellness of junior doctors.

She is a trained teacher in Mindfulness-based stress reduction, Mindful Self Compassion, yoga and art has a special interest in promoting wellness among healthcare professionals through these modalities.
